The Spirit of Saltergate

Melanie was commissioned by Barratts East Midlands and Chesterfield Borough Council, to produce a permanent piece of public art for the site of the former Chesterfield football ground at Saltergate - a now newly built, private residential housing estate.

 

The brief set out that the artwork should enhance the southern entrance to the housing development and create a local landmark feature on the Saltergate gateway into Chesterfield town centre. The artwork had to mark this as the historic location of Chesterfield's original football ground and incorporate QR codes, that would take viewers to short films produced by the club, to celebrate the town's long football heritage.

 

Consultation took place with local residents, CFC supporters, the Chesterfield Football Club Trust and the Supporters Club in developing and refining ideas for the artwork.

 

The final designs were manufactured by Chris Brammall Ltd, Realstone Ltd and Photocast Products. Completed March 2015.
